James H. Smith, Jr., M.D.  (CHIEF RESIDENT)

Dr. Smith graduated from East Carolina University in Greenville, NC with a degree in Biology. He received his medical degree in 2011 from the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University.

Nessa Timoney, M.B.B.Ch  (CHIEF RESIDENT)

Dr. Timoney graduated from Centre College in Danville, KY with a degree in psychobiology. She received her medical degree in 2011 from the Trinity College Dublin, School of Medicine, Ireland.

Farhan Mirza, M.B.B.S. 

Dr. Farhan Mirza was born and raised in Karachi, Pakistan. His formative years were spent in Pakistan, where he completed high school in 2006 with a major in Biology. Following this he completed a five year medical degree (Bachelors of Medicine, Bachelors of Surgery – MBBS) at the Aga Khan University Medical College, Karachi, in November 2011. He successfully matched at the University of Kentucky Neurosurgery program and started residency in July 2012.  His clinical interests are in the fields of Epilepsy Surgery, Neuro-Oncology, and Skull Base. He also has a keen interest in the history of neurosurgery, development of operative techniques, and neurosurgical education for medical students and residents. He was a member of the CNS SANS Resident Challenge winning team from UK in 2015, and runners-up in 2014. He has been selected to participate in the CNS Leadership Fellows Program 2017-19. Outside of neurosurgery, he enjoys reading about world history, playing scrabble and badminton, weight training, and spending time at home with family.

John Richard Lamm, M.D.

Dr. Lamm graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a degree in mathematical decision sciences (statistics).  He received his medical degree in 2013 from The Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University in Greenville, NC.

William Dillen, M.D.

Dr. Dillen graduated from the Edinboro University of Pennsylvania with a degree in biochemistry.  He received his medical degree from the West Virginia University School of Medicine in 2013.

Jason Hall, M.D.

Dr. Hall graduated from Western Kentucky University with a degree in biology and chemistry.  He received his medical degree in 2014 from the University of Kentucky.

Brian Snyder, M.D.

Dr. Snyder graduated from the University of California, Berkely with a degree in chemistry.  He received his medical degree in 2014 from the Albany Medical College.

Thomas Hines, M.D.

Dr. Hines graduated from Clemson University with a chemical engineering degree. He received his medical degree in 2015 from East Tennessee State University James H. Quillen College of Medicine.

Benjamin Motley, M.D.

Dr. Motley graduated from Kent State University with a degree in integrated life sciences. He received his medical degree in 2015 from the Northeast Ohio Medical University.

Catherine Wang, M.D.

Dr. Wang graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a bioengineering degree.  She received her medical degree in 2016 from the University of Kentucky.

Robert Spears, M.D.

Dr. Spears graduated from the Pensacola Christian College in Pensacola, FL in pre-med.  He received his medical degree from the University of Louisville in 2016.

Amy Sheldrake, M.D.

Dr. Sheldrake graduated from Purdue University in West Lafayette, IN with a degree in pharmaceutical sciences.  She received her medical degree from the University of Kentucky School of Medicine in May 2017.

Maher Hulou, M.D.

Dr. Hulou received his medical degree from the University of Aleppo in Syria in 2013. He did a post-doctoral research fellowship at Harvard Medical School/Brigham and Women's Hospital in Neuro-Oncology and Skull Base Surgery. He spent 2 years in General Surgery residency training and joined our residency program July 1, 2017.
